Chokhor Duchen - July 20, 2015.

One of the four great holy days of the Tibetan calendar is today July 20. Also known as the Festival of Turning the Wheel of Dharma, Chokhor Duchen commemorates the anniversary upon which Shakyamuni Buddha first began teaching the Dharma.

On today the effects of positive or negative actions are and will be multiplied by 10,000,000 ten millions times.

For seven weeks after his enlightenment, the Buddha did not teach. After this period, Indra and Brahma offered a dharmachakra and a conch shell and requested Shakyamuni to teach. Chokhor Duchen commemorates the Buddha's first sermon and the teaching of the Four Noble Truths.

In Buddhism this event is known as the ‘turning of the wheel of dharma’. Theravada Buddhists remember this event on Dhamma Day, also known as Asalha Puja, in reference to the month in which it occurs.

Accepting, Buddha Shakyamuni turned the Wheel of Dharma for the first time at Sarnath by teaching on the Four Noble Truths.

Thank you for reading and may you find peace and joyfulness within yourself while you are reading this blog.

Nagarjuna's Dedication of Merit:-
So nam di yi tham chay zig pa nyi
Thob nay nye pa'i dra nam pham jay nay
Kye ga na chi'i ba lab thrug pa yi
Si pa'i tso lay dro war drol war shog.

By this merit may we obtain omniscience then.
Having defeated the enemies wrong-doings.
May we liberate migrators from the ocean of existence. With its stormy waves of birth, old age, sickness and death.
