Born from the Buddha's Crown

Unlike many protector deities who were local spirits tamed by masters, Sitatapatra has a completely pure, primordial origin. According to the sacred Shurangama Sutra, she was born directly out of the Ushnisha (the sacred crown protrusion) of Shakyamuni Buddha while he was resting in absolute, samadhi meditation.

As the Buddha sat in deep stillness, a brilliant, multi-colored light radiated from the top of his head. Out of this light emerged the magnificent goddess Sitatapatra. Because she was born from the highest point of the Buddha's enlightened physical form, she represents the absolute peak of the Buddha's protective power and all-pervading compassion.

"Sitatapatra represents the ultimate, invincible shield of the mind. Her name translates directly as 'The White Parasol,' signifying a grand, celestial umbrella that instantly shelters all living beings from the scorching heat of suffering, bad luck, and negative karma."
