The importance of practicing the Tibetan Treasure Vase

According to the traditional Tibetan Buddhism, the Treasure Vases are sacred objects empowered to magnetize abundance, prosperity and healing in your home, business, or property. In accordance with the Vajrayana texts, each vase is carefully filled with rare blessed substances collected over many years by Buddhist Masters.

Incurable diseases, inescapable weapons of mass destruction, and a weakening of the earth's elements due to pollutants and poisons in the environment. Sound familiar? Padmasambhava, the 9th century founder of Tibetan Buddhism, prophesied what sounds a lot like our world.

Through Guru Rinpoche wisdom and compassion, Padmasambava gave specific instructions for the creation of treasure vases to assist with the healing of the environment and the restoration of vital energy during these degenerate times.

The treasure vase is an ancient remedy that can replenish the essence of the elements—earth, air, fire, water, and space. When the outer environment is purified, beings are released from suffering caused by pollution and are therefore rejuvenated. This restores the energy to all realms.

In the human realm, the treasure vase has the power to magnetize wealth and abundance, improve health, and remove obstacles to long life. Its effects help pacify anger and warfare and increase wisdom and compassion for all.
Padmasambava prescribed the sacred objects that fill the treasure vase. The conch shell supports the life essence of the god realm of joy. Turquoise supports the life essence of the human realm of intelligence. Crystal supports the life essence of the naga realm of wealth. The cowrie shell supports the life essence of the dakinis, and iron pyrite supports the life essence of the local protectors of the environment and the practitioners within it.

The vases are filled to the brim with medicine balls whose most important ingredient is "mother pills." The main substances in mother pills are called yang-dzay rilbu (essential wealth substance pills.) Padmasambava originally hid these substances for future generations of beings.
Many treasure revelers discovered these hidden substances. His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche collected the substances from the ten-gam (treasure collections) of Mipham Rinpoche, Mindroling Terchen, and Khyentse Rinpoche, and many other precious substances created by sublime beings. From these substances Dudjom Rinpoche made the original "mother pill."

Lama Tharchin Rinpoche received original "mother pills" from Dudjom Rinpoche and expanded them. He added the twenty-five precious substances: the five precious jewels, the five precious essences, the five precious medicines, the five precious scents, and the five precious grains; plus tsa-sum (three roots), tsi-zhi (four flower essences), nyingpo-nga (five essences) and zangpo-druk (six excellences).

He also added a very rich collection of jewels and minerals: opals, diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, rubies, turquoise, coral, pearl, dzi stone, chong stone, gold silver, copper, and so on: and additional precious substances such as soil, stone, and water collected from many of the world's holy and famous places.
Also inside the vases are dutsi (a holy substance that transforms all negativity into wisdom), ten-du rilbu (a collection of relics from countless Buddhas), pictures of the wealth deity Khandro Norlha, wealth mantras, and khorlos (written diagrams expressing wealth potential), which increase merit, prosperity, and abundance with the intention to benefit all beings. Upon completion, the treasure vases are consecrated in a seven day ceremony.

For centuries, Tibetans have kept treasure vases in their homes, buried them in the earth, or placed them in bodies of water.

Zangdokpalri - A Prayer of Aspiration for the Copper-Coloured Mountain of Glory

Zangdokpalri - The Copper-Coloured Mountain of Glory is the pure land where Guru Rinpoche now dwells, said to be located in Ngayab Ling. At the peak of the Copper-Coloured Mountain, Padmasambhava liberated the king of the rakshasas, Raksha Thötreng, and assumed his form. Now he dwells in Zangdokpalri as a ‘vidyadhara of spontaneous presence,’ the fourth vidyadhara level.

There,” writes Kyabjé Dudjom Rinpoche, "he manifested the inconceivable Palace of Lotus Light, and presides as a king, with one of his emanations in each of the eight continents of the rakshasas, giving teachings like the Eight Great Methods of Attainment of the Kagyé, and protecting the people of this world of Jambudvipa from fears for their life.
Even to this day, he reigns as the regent of Vajradhara, the ‘vidyadhara of spontaneous accomplishment of the ultimate path’; and thus he will remain, without ever moving, until the end of the universe.

About the Copper - Colored Mountain
While Pure Land Buddhism is generally thought of as an East Asian tradition with an Indian origin, the Copper-Colored Mountain is in fact the first and only pure land with scriptural origins entirely in the Tibetan tradition. 

It represents Tibetan culture’s fascinating intersection of traditional history with the liturgical Tantric practice. The Copper-Colored Mountain is understood to be the current abode of Padmasambhava, the Indian master credited with first bringing Buddhism to Tibet and founding Tibet’s first monastery, Samye.
After leaving Tibet, it is said that Padmasambhava set up residence on Cāmara, one of the two islands on either side of the continent of Jambudvipa, our world according to Buddhist cosmology. After taming the resident ogres of Cāmara and converting them to Buddhism, he then built an octagonal palace where Buddhist practitioners may be transported in visions and dreams or reborn through aspiration prayers.

Prayer To Guru Rinpoche - To Clear Away Obstacles On The Path

Precious guru, embodiment of all Buddhas of the three times; Great bliss, the lord of all accomplishments; Wrathful power, who dispels all hindrances and subdues demons; Pray bestow your blessings. Please remove the outer, inner, and secret obstacles and grant your blessings to accomplish the wishes spontaneously.

When, due to the obstacles of the elements, earth, water, fire and wind, This illusory body, which is rented, is meeting the time to be perished. Requesting undoubtedly, without two pointed mind to Padmasambhava and the Goddess of the Elements, [there is] no doubt the four elements get naturally pacified. 

I request, Orgyen, the One Arising From the Lotus (Orgyen Pädma Chung Nä), Please bless the wishes to succeed naturally.

Hosts of the Three Jewels, Three Roots and Dharma protectors,

The outer eight classes, the inner eight classes,

The emanating eight classes, the eight classes of all that appears and exists and so forth,

Who is Dudjom Lingpa?
Dudjom Lingpa aka Chakong Tertön (1835-1904) — a great Nyingma master and tertön whose revelations fill twenty volumes. He was considered to be the emanation of Khye'u Chung Lotsawa, one of the twenty-five disciples of Guru Rinpoche. His immediate incarnation, born even before he himself passed away, was Dudjom Rinpoche.
Dudjom Lingpa (1835–1904) was a Tibetan meditation master, spiritual teacher and Trenton.  He stands out from the norm of Tibetan Buddhist teachers in the sense that he had no formal education, nor did he take ordination as a monk or belong to any established Buddhist school or tradition of his time.
He was met with great skepticism by many of his contemporaries, due to the fact that, despite not studying under any established Buddhist teachers of his time, he claimed to receive teachings on meditation and spiritual practice directly from non-physical masters like Guru Rinpoche and Yeshe Tsogyal, as well as Bodhisattvas such as Avalokitesvara and Manjushri. It was not until his disciples started showing clear signs of spiritual maturity, that he was accepted by his contemporaries as an authentic teacher and terton

Today his teachings and literary works, especially those on non-meditation (Dzogchen), are highly regarded within the Nyingma-tradition of Tibetan Buddhism

Terton - The Great Discoverers of Ancient Hidden Buddhist Texts or Terma

Terton -  The Discoverers of Ancient Hidden Buddhist Texts or Terma
Terton is a term within Tibetan Buddhism meaning a person who is a discoverer of ancient hidden texts or terma. Many tertöns are considered to be incarnations of the twenty five main disciples of Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), who foresaw a dark time in Tibet. He and his consort Yeshe Tsogyal hid teachings to be found in the future to benefit beings. 

A vast system of transmission lineages developed. Scriptures from the Nyingma school were updated by terma discoveries, and terma teachings have guided many Tibetan Bon and Buddhist practitioners.
The Termas are sometimes objects like statues, and can also exist as Dharma texts and experiences. Tertöns discover the texts at the right time and place. The teachings can be relatively simple transmissions as well as entire meditation systems. Termas are found in rocks, water and the minds of the incarnations of Guru Rinpoche's students.
Who was the first Terton?
Sangyé Lama
Starting with the first tertön, Sangyé Lama (1000–1080) and Drapa Ngönshé (1012–90), discoverer of the Four Medical Tantras, there have been hundreds of masters who specialized in the discovery of terma, continuing up until the present day with Kyabjé Dudjom Rinpoche and Kyabjé Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.

Sangyé Lama (1000-1080) — the first tertön, or revealer of spiritual treasures (termas) hidden by Guru Rinpoche for the benefit of future generations. He was the first incarnation of Gyalsé Lharjé—one of the sons of Mutik Tsenpo and the immediate incarnation of King Trisong Detsen. One of his main termas was Tsa Sum Dril Drup , which was later rediscovered as a yang ter by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo—the thirteenth emanation of Gyalsé Lharjé.
There are said to be one hundred great tertöns and one thousand minor ones, of whom five in particular are known as the ‘Five Terton King or Sovereigns’:

The Great Tertons In other Tibetan Buddhist schools
The 15th Karmapa Khakyab Dorje
of the Karma Kagyu Lineage was a tertön. There was a prophecy from Yeshe Tsogyal that he should take Tantric consorts. Initially, he wished to stay a monk, but his health was failing. Meditation masters told him he would die if he didn't fulfill his functions as a tertön. In 1892, he was convinced to marry when he was 20 years old. By the time the 15th Karmapa died, he had accumulated 40 boxes of termas, texts and objects.
The 5th Dalai Lama was a tertön who revealed a Dzogchen terma cycle through his pure visions known as the Sangwa Gyachen (Bearing the Seal of Secrecy).

Another noteworthy tertön is Tsangpa Gyare, founder of the Drukpa Lineage (12th century).

The Drikung Kagyu also has a Dzogchen terma tradition, the Yangzab Dzogchen, based on termas revealed by Rinchen Phuntsog (16th century).

The Fifth Lelung Jedrung, Lobzang Trinle (b.1697 - d.1740) was also a terton.

100 Deities of Bardo State - The Eight Wrathful Females (Part 7)


Bardo, The Intermediate State:

Bardo is the Tibetan word for between, or an in-between, state. In a religious context the term is most referenced in regard to the state of existence that occurs between death and rebirth. Under the subject of bardo some of the topics of interest that are related to art are the sights and visions that a being is believed to experience during that time. In the West this subject is most commonly referred to as 'The Tibetan Book of The Dead.
Bardo is an abstract concept. There are no actual images of the bardo. Deity figures and mandala-like shapes are used to convey the ideas of the state between death and rebirth.The 'Terton' Karma Lingpa (1326–1386), in the 14th century, is credited with the discovery of the 'treasure text' known as the Liberation Through Hearing in the Bardo (Tibetan Book of the Dead).

A text intended to be read to the deceased and to influence positively the subsequent rebirth. (There is evidence to suggest that the famous 'Treasure Finder' of the Bon Religion - Shenchen Luga (996-1035) - had discovered similar texts in the 11th century).

The assembly mandala of Bardo deities depicts a perfected state of beings and the central deities within, symbolizes the perfected states of the meditators' own awareness, psycho-physical aggregates, elemental properties and sensory and mental process.

The peaceful deities symbolize the natural purity of these fundamental components of beings while the wrathful deities are the transformative aspects of the energies. The outer deities of these mandalas are the mode of activities of an enlightened being.

The eight wrathful females or eight gaurima are counted among the mandala of the fifty-eight wrathful deities. They are:

  3. Chauri - The Thief Lady (chom rkun ma)
  4. Ghasmari - The Voracious Lady (sme sha can)

  6. Chandali - The Fierce Lady (gtum mo)
  7. Vetali - The Undead Lady (ro langs ma)
  8. Shmashani - The Charnel Ground Lady (dur khrod ma)

For those in whom the precious Bodhichitta has not arisen
May it arise and not decrease
But increase further and further.

Dedication of Merit
By this merit may we obtain omniscience then.
Having defeated the enemies wrong-doings.
May we liberate migratory from the ocean of existence.
With its stormy waves of birth, old age, sickness and death.
