The Epic of King Gesar Ling

When a raindrop falls into a still pond, It dissolves inseparably in its own nature, And nothing has occurred. But when the same raindrop falls into the same pond, Ripples shine and dance on the water's skin. From these two ways of seeing one thing come the true magic that raises and destroys kingdoms, That increases joy or misery, brilliance or degradation - The Famous Poetic by -The King Gesar

Every now and then a spiritual or secular giant of unimaginable power appears on the world stage to bring order and harmony. About eight centuries ago, a glorious, miraculous man of amazing power took birth among the nomadic community of eastern Tibet. He conquered many parts of that land and brought to its peace and harmony, he was the King Gesar of Ling.
The Epic of King Gesar Ling
The legend of King Gesar has been circulating among Tibetans for over 1000 years. Little is known in the West during the early days of the Internet. It is the longest epic in the world.

Stories of King Gesar were primarily passed down in oral form, but even the existing written copies, which are estimated to comprise only 10% of the epic, number 246 volumes – containing over 1.5 million lines.

King Gesar represents the principle of warrior ship – not in the sense of war skills, but in the sense of realizing the power, dignity and wakefulness that are inherent in all of us as human beings. The confident warrior conducts himself or herself with a gentle, fearless, and open-hearted intelligence in all aspects of life.
Ancient Warrior
Warrior ship here refers to realizing the power, dignity and wakefulness that are inherent in all of us as human beings. It is awakening our basic human confidence which allows us to cheer up, develop a sense of vision and succeed in what we are doing.” In this context, the meaning of warrior ship transcends any idea or expression of aggression.

King Gesar raised hundreds of thousands of warrior men and women under the leadership of his legendary warrior commanders: the Seven Men of Supreme Warrior hood, the Thirty Warrior Brothers, the Eighty Champion Warriors, and the Eighteen Supreme Ladies.
Among them the most famous commanders were :
1. Gyatsa Zhalkar,
2. Tsazhang Denma Changtra,
3. Shenpa Meru,
4. Amye Nangchung Yutag,
5. Palha Michang Karpo,
6. Dralha Tsegyal,
7. Atag Lhamo,
8. Jangtrug Yulha Thogyur.
The Manifestation of Guru Rinpoche
King Gesar was a manifestation of Guru Rinpoche. His chief commanders were also believed to be enlightened, appearing solely to serve the world.

King Gesar constantly received teachings and prophesies from Guru Rinpoche, many divinities and Dakinis in pure visions, as from person to person. He also received teachings and transmissions from the great sage Amye Changchup Drekhol of the Lang clan and others.

Enlightened beings appear in the forms, sounds and actions of wrathful manifestations and expressions. These wrathful manifestations and actions do not come out of anger, attachment and grasping at “self” nor in order to harm or cause suffering to anyone.

They come out of love and compassion, and they are powerful manifestations that destroy and eliminate the negative forces, the very sources of suffering.
The miraculous departure of the King Gesar Ling
At the age of eighty-eight, Gesar summoned Tsazhing Denma, the only old warrior commander who was still alive, and the warrior princesses of the young generation with his beloved Ling subjects to Sengdrug Tagtse, his main palace in Ma valley.

After giving Dharma teachings, he declared that the time of his final departure had arrived. Then the next day, many saw him flying away through the sky sitting on a shawl of light held up by four Dakinis, and then he disappeared. Others saw him dissolving into a rainbow-body, leaving the clothes that he was wearing but no mortal body behind.
The Prophecy of the coming of King Gesar
According to Mipham Rinpoche and some others great masters, King Gesar will reincarnate as Rudrachakrin, the 25th Rigden King of Shambhala or The Shangri-la.

The prophecy of the reincarnation of the Rudrachakrin, the 25th Rigden King of Shambhala or The Shangri-la is being prohecies that in the year 2424 A. D. Rudrachakrin will conquer the dark forces and inaugurate the dawn of a new golden age of peace and joy on earth.

Shangri-La was best known in the west as a mystical hidden and invisible paradise supposedly in the Tibet. It is also said that in the Year 2424 A. D. Rudrachakrin will conquer the dark forces and inaugurate the dawn of a new golden age of peace and joy on earth.
For ordinary Tibetans, those King Gesar epics remained a powerful source of inspiration to Dharma, awakening inner courage in their hearts and knowledge of the greatness of their past.
